October 1, 2018

Well Fall is in the air, time to get your trainer set up for the winter, cook your turkey for Thanksgiving, get your garden ready for winter, and get your bike out and ride on the nice days for some fresh air.  Fat bikes are great for all winter long.

This will by my last advice column month, so I am going to address the difference between schrader and presta valve tubes. Some tubes have a big valve like a car tire and they are called Schrader and most pumps fit on those tubes.  Some road bikes, hybrids, and mountain bikes have presta tubes with a skinny valve and you have to unscrew the top to put air in them.  Your pump has to have a smaller opening than the typical bigger opening.  If your pump does not work on the presta valve, you can get an adaptor for $3.00 or $4.00 that makes your presta valve into a Schrader valve. Confused just ask your bike shop staff to explain the difference when you are buying a tube.

Clearance sale 25% off regular price on all merchandise in stock including tubes stock up now for next year.

 Cyclocross Races

General Race Info:

Kevin hosted our annual cyclocross race on Saturday October 24, 2015 at 5 pm at Rockwood park two years ago. We had a great turn out with 53 racers and everyone enjoyed the course. A big thanks to Specialized, Norco, Louis Garneau, Cycles Lambert, Subway, Moosehead beer and all of the great volunteers who helped make this a success. For more race schedules and results go to VELO NB.

We have hosted many races in the past 20 years including Road, Cyclocross, and XC Mountain Bike events with many happy racers participating. The last 6 years we have been sponsoring a fall cyclocross race in October or November at Rockwood Park, Quispam QPlex, and Nauwigewauk Community Club with lots of mud and great prizes.  We sponsor a Consolvo Bikes team with our own custom design jersey, bibshort, and arm warmer cycling uniform. Look for the black, red, and white colors going by on the road, or woods. Go to www.velo.nb.ca for local upcoming races.  After obtaining your race application form from Velo New Brunswick, fill it out and bring it in the shop for Bill or Becky to sign your form.  If you race for us you will have to purchase a jersey  from Consolvo Bikes shop and wear it at the races with the following sponsors on the jersey:  Norco, Specialized, Inspired Athletics, Gu Energy, and Louis Garneau.  And GOOD LUCK and remember to have fun.

Bicycle Trials

We have hosted 3 Bicycle Trials shows here out in front of the Shop 1 with Ryan Leech representing Norco in 2008, see him on his websites: www.ryanleech.com and www.trialsoflife.com. We also support 2 local trials riders: Nathan Nichols and Andrew Basque who have performed at many local New Brunswick events. They performed 2 years ago at the Bike Swap and Tent Sale on Saturday May 23, 2009. Check out our media section to see their videos. Kris Holmes and Ryan Senechal performed here a number of years ago representing Norco Products, Ltd.

Fall Cyclocross Race

We are sponsoring with other bike shops the Elmhurst Outdoor Cross this Sunday on November 6th at 11 am on the Kingston Peninsula.  Check out facebook to register or go to www.velo.nb.ca for more information
